Concert-lecture with Mattia Cigalini, sax 27/09/2019 at 17:00 in Sala Monteverdi
Born in 1989, Mattia started performing at the age of 12 and teaching music at the age of 15. The European specialized critique unanimously considers him one of the greatest artists of the new generation. He graduated in classical saxophone at the Conservatory "G. Nicolini" of Piacenza, with full marks. He won many prizes and International competitions, including the Premio Nazionale Luciano Zorzella for the "Best new talent" and the Premio Internazionale Massimo Urbani.
At the age of 19 he records his first album as a leader: "Arriving Soon" (Dejavu/Norma Blu), commissioned by the Japanese giant Pony Canion, with Tullio De Piscopo, Fabrizio Bosso, Andrea Pozza and Riccardo Fioravanti. “Arriving soon” was awarded as one of the best jazz records in 2010, during the Jazzit Award 2010 (100 Greatest jazz Album). He was also awarded during "Top Jazz 2010", for the "Best new talents", finishing fourth among more than 80 artists.
He collected many enthusiastic reviews from Musica Jazz, from the French magazine Jazz Hot. The Japanese magazine Swing Journal ranked him as the 12th best jazz record in the world, between Pat Metheny and Chick Corea, the first Italian. He was hosted in many RAI shows. In October 2009 he starts his first tournèe in Japan, with great success.
He is now a teacher of Jazz Saxophone at the Accademia del Suono of Milano, and cooperates with the greatest Italian and International musicians, performing in the most important Italian and International festivals and theaters.
